Saturday Ligue 1 – Pre Match Analysis

Reims – PSG

Of course, the big question here is exactly which PSG will turn up. If they are ‘in the mood’ and want to put on a show then Reims have no chance, but if we see the sloppy Parisians who could only draw 2-2 with Bordeaux last week, then it might be different. Reims haven’t been too bad this season and have 10 points to their name. They also don’t have a bad history against PSG, covering the asian handicap on 4 of the last 6 attempts. They have a habit of pushing the champions close, especially he at Le Stade Delaune where the atmosphere can be quite intimidating. I personally expect a reaction from the visitors following last week’s draw, but on a -1.25 handicap I’m not interested.

Prediction: 0-2
Recommended bet: None

Angers- Troyes

Based on this season’s form then you’d have to say Angers have a good chance of winning. Troyes will be extremely disappointed not to have won a match yet, despite having 4 of their opening 5 fixtures at home, all against mediocre opposition. Maybe being away from home against a familiar foe will do them some good though. ESTAC have performed well facing the western outfit, unbeaten in the last 6 H2Hs. This includes two wins against them last year and Jean Marc Furlan’s men can sit back and wait for counter attacking opportunities here. It’s worth noting that despite Angers’ good start to the campaign, a victory at home has so far eluded them. Logical recent form points to a home win, but I like X2 and it could be a chance for Troyes to break their duck.

Prediction: 1-2
Recommended bet: None

Guingamp – GFCA

Will GFCA finally score a goal tonight? Well, their performance last week deserved one so maybe they can’t be written off here. I have to say the islanders were quite impressive facing Monaco and on another day might have easily drawn (or even won) the game. Guingamp should technically be too strong tonight but in a position of odds-on favourite isn’t what they are used to. The Breton outfit have won their last two games but goalscoring is usually a major issue for them too. This should be a really tight match with chances at a premium. Maybe the extra Ligue 1 experience and quality will eventually get EAG over the line but I’m not willing to back them @ this price.

Prediction: 0-0
Recommended bet: None

Caen – Montpellier

There’s no doubt that Montpellier are in a mess and are in desperate need of a result. They are winless, have one point to their name and have only scored a solitary goal so far this season. Even that can’t be counted as a proper one because it occurred in stoppage time last week when the game was over. Coach Rolland Courbis has admitted he could be sacked soon if results don’t get better. But his team are going ot have to make a massive improvement because right now they are all over the place. Caen are usually pretty strong at home and certainly have goalscoring capabilities. Until Montpellier are actually playing well and looking capable of scoring goals then I’m happy to bet against them. Thus -0.25 on the hosts looks a decent price.

Prediction: 2-0
Recommended bet: Caen -0.25 @ 1.97

Bastia – Nice

This is going to be an extremely hot derby match between a couple of fierce rivals. These two absolutely hate each other and there could be some real crowd disturbances. Things are so severe that Nice fans aren’t actually allowed inside the stadium tonight and many will be turned away at the ferry port too. On the field, expect at least one card here and tensions will run high. The Nice players often completely ‘lose their head’ in this fixture and do some ridiculous things. Perhaps that will change tonight but Bastia usually handle the situation better. I actually think they are the better of the two sides anyway and will have enough to get 3 points tonight. Taking them -0.25 seems fairly safe and a fairly juicy price too.

Prediction: 2-1
Recommended bet: Bastia -0.25 @ 2.04
