Monaco Season Preview 2014/15

GK & defence

Despite many saying he wouldn’t keep his place in the team, Daniel Subasic was actually a pleasant surprise last season for Monaco. His competition this year is dutchman Maarten Stekelenburg who’s signed on loan from Fulham, but it’s unlikely Subasic will be ousted as no1. The backline stays largely intact, although having Aymen Abdennour fit a Continue reading

Rennes Season Preview 2014/15

GK & defence

Benoit Costil is their no1 GK and he’s a proven quality shotstopper who doesn’t have many weaknesses. They’ve brought in experienced Olivier Sorin as his deputy and he should be alright if called upon. The backline itself should be reasonable enough, albeit nothing special. It looks like Rennes are going to lose Jean Armel Kana Bikik before the end of the transfer window, so they already signed Mozambique defender Mexer as his replacement. He’ll be linking up with either Cedric Hountondji or Sylvain Armand in the middle, Continue reading

Lyon Season Preview 2014/15

GK and defence

Lyon have a great young keeper in between the sticks; Anthony Lopes. He beat out Remy Vercoutre to get the no1 job last season and at times produced some stellar performances. Lopes is still relatively young and lacks experience but for sure he’s a great prospect. Backup isn’t great with Mathieu Gorgelin projected to be their number two keeper and he’s certainly nothing special. When at full strength, the Lyon backline is going to be really solid. For me, the standout star is Samuel Umtiti who is one hell of a uni Continue reading

Reims Season Preview 2014/15

GK & defence

Kossi Agassa and Jonny Placide will be battling it out for the no1 spot. There’s not a lot to choose between them anymore, but Placide is the better long term prospect. The backline itself is capable of being solid, but can also be quite inconsistent. The likes of Weber, Conte, Glombard and Turan are ok players, whilst they’ll hope that ageing Continue reading

Lens Season Preview 2014/15

GK and defence

Lens have suffered a big blow by losing Alphonse Areola who was the best goalkeeper in Ligue 2 last season. The PSG loanee was worth a number of points to them and will definitely be missed. They were set to sign him on loan again but Bastia sneaked in ahead. Instead, they are currently left with Rudy Riou (for now), until they can find a replacement. Continue reading

Metz Season Preview 2014/15

GK and defence

Metz look fairly solid in this area, as long as certain players can adapt well to Ligue 1 level. Johann Carrasso is a decent enough keeper, although if he goes down injured then their backup options aren’t very good. Mainstays of this defence are Sylvain Marchal and Jeremy Choplin. They also have Guido Milan and new signing from South America Continue reading

PSG Season Preview 2014/15

GK and defence

Salvatore Sirigu is a very underrated goalkeeper. He’s actually worth far more to PSG than most people think and throughout the last few seasons he’s regularly come up with some key saves. They are well set with him in between the sticks and Nicolas Douchez is a more than able deputy. At the back they have a number of stars at their disposal. Continue reading
