Norway Tippeligaen – Brann v Aalesund preview (22/7/16)

BRANN-AKF

Brann preview

The Bergan club have a remarkable home record in that they’ve only conceded one goal in front of their own fans all season. That one blotch occurred in their previous match here against Valerenga, but it made no difference because they won 4-1. Brann have won 6 of their 7 games here in 2016 and only Odd managed to leave with anything, which was a 0-0 draw early in the campaign. The amount of clean sheets that Brann have kept is incredibly high for a league Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Stabaek v Brann Preview (17/7/16)

STAB-BRANN

Stabaek preview

So Stabaek sacked Billy McKinlay and immediately saw an improvement in form. They produced a really good performance away at Lillestrom to win 2-1, and in truth they shouldve won by a bigger margin. I’m sure that win would’ve given everyone a real confidence boost ahead of this match and maybe some belief is back within the squad again. Stabaek seemed much more organised tactically last week and their transitions between defence and attack were impressive. Right now there are still Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Sarpsborg v Lillestrom Preview (17/7/16)

SARPS-LSK

Sarpsborg preview

The hosts fell to a 5-2 defeat at Rosenborg last week but the scoreline was extremely harsh on them. For a large part of that game Sarpsborg were extremely competitive and on another day might’ve pulled it back to 3-3. In the end, two goals in stoppage time disguised the closer nature of the match. Rosenborg had to score a couple of really good goals to win as well and they pushed the champions hard. After a poor start to the season Sarpsborg have really picked up Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Molde v Start Preview (17/7/16)

MFK-START

Molde preview

The champions of two years ago are in the middle of a poor run, losing 4 of their last 5 games. They’ve come back from the summer break with two really disappointing defeats, especially the awful 4-3 defeat at Sogndal last week. The final scoreline didn’t tell the full story in a match which Molde were clearly second best in, Something like 4-1 or 5-1 would’ve been a fairer reflection on proceedings. Of course, MFK haven’t been helped by the loss Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Stromsgodset v Tromso Preview (17/7/16)

SIF-TIL

Stromsgodset preview

SIF are now a clear third in the league after beating off rivals Viking 1-0 last week. In truth, it was a really disappointing game of football and both sides were really cautious. This is unusual for Godset but I’d imagine they return to their normal attacking style here. At Marienlyst Stadion they’ve won their last seven Tippeligaen matches, many of them by a comfortable margin. Something about this place seems to breed attacking football and Godset often play at Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Bodo Glimt v Odd Preview (17/7/16)

BODO-ODD

Bodo Glimt preview

Bodo obtained a vital and morale boosting win away at Start last week (4-1). It’s true taking three points against the bottom side is nothing to write home about, but in the context of their season that could be a massive success. Bodo have come back from the summer break unbeaten, that victory last week adding to a 0-0 against Rosenborg. The northern outfit do have a habit of sometimes raising themselves against the better sides and they’ll have to Continue reading

Norway Tippeligaen – Aalesund v Rosenborg Preview (16/7/16)

AFK-RBK

Aalesund preview

AFK have had a tough couple of fixtures since the summer break and things don’t get any easier with the visit of Rosenborg. AFK lost back to back away games at Godset (2-4) and Odd (1-4) and simply had no answer to the attacking powers of their opponents. Earlier in the season they demonstrated some decent defensive resilience but now it seems they are incapable of holding out strong attacks, at least away from home. For this game, key midfielder Bjorn Helge Riise is suspended. Aalesund are now third bottom Continue reading
